COVID-19 Staff Vaccination Policy
Employers in South Africa are entitled to implement a mandatory vaccination policy for certain categories of employees.
HFN Nursing Agency has the responsibility to maintain a safe and healthy working environment for their staff and patients, while still ensuring that the rights of employees who raise concerns around being vaccinated are respected.
HFN will comply with the obligation to reasonably accommodate employees refusing to be vaccinated on medical or constitutional grounds. Employees have the constitutional right to bodily integrity, the right to religion, conscience, or belief. This is not an absolute right and would not apply where the effort and cost involved in accommodating the employee result in unjustifiable hardship and expense to the company.
Accordingly, HFN will implement a mandatory vaccination policy to ensure the health and safety of their employees, their patients, and people with whom they interact.
In summary:
The COVID-19 Vaccination is now available in South Africa to all adults.
The COVID-19 Vaccination for HFN Staff is mandatory but not compulsory.
HFN staff caring for patients who refuse to be vaccinated will be replaced by vaccinated staff.
Replaced staff, granted exemption from vaccination, will be placed with patients who do not specifically mind non-vaccinated staff. Patients will be required to sign a waiver to that end.
When placing staff with new HFN patients, preference will be given to vaccinated staff.
